International Development Cooperation (IDC)
Academic Goals and Program Characteristics
The Department of International Development Cooperation (IDC) was established in 2008 as the first of its kind in Korea to promote interdisciplinary post-graduate teaching and research on the processes of social, political and economic development and change. The course is dedicated to deepening the understanding of development and underdevelopment, complex modes of development assistance in the global context, political and socioeconomic systems in developing world, and project management and consulting skills.
The teaching staff have considerable experience in living and working in the developing world as well as international organizations, and most have engaged in policy-relevant research and consultancy work with international development agencies or consulting firms. Students upon graduation have successfully found employment in a wide variety of government, academic and private sector organizations.

Applied Economics
This course is primarily designed to introduce the principles of economics in a practical way for those students who have not previously taken any rigorous economics courses. Accordingly, emphasis will be placed on the economic way of thinking, and on practical issues, rather than on mathematical details. After taking this course, it is hoped that the students will understand and be able to develop their own views on economic issues that appear in the news media, albeit rudimentary.
Understanding IDC
This is a topical, theoretical course on international development studies. The course will expose students to the political, economic, social and environmental dimensions of development through a multidisciplinary approach.
Economics of Development
The purpose of this course is to explore both the causes of poverty and prosperity among individuals and nations, and the nature of economic growth and development.
Project Cycle Management
This course is designed to provide students with a practical knowledge of the methods of project/program cycle management: the skills and tools used in the public sector to manage ODA projects through project programming, identification, design, appraisal, implementation and evaluation
Development and Social Policy in Developing Countries
This course delivers two benefits: (1) a greater understanding of the factors, policies, and programs that affect growth, employment, equity, and social welfare in developing countries; and (2) practice in synthesizing these factors, policies, and programs into a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS).
Strategies of Development Cooperation
This course discusses important contemporary topics pertaining to international development cooperation. It covers various sectors and topics such as information and communication technology (ICT), econometrics, the impacts of aid, the selectivity of aid, and development financing.
Practicum in Development Project
This course aims to train future development consultants who are capable of identifying, developing, and implementing development projects. The class will improve techniques to generate proper a Project Design Matrix (PDM) or logical framework.
Development Project Management
The course mainly deals with the methods of planning, appraisal and evaluation of development projects and programs. Our class aims to nurture future development consultants and practitioners.
NGO and Civil Society
The course discusses the role of NGOs and civil society in reducing poverty in developing economies. The discussion, in particular, focuses on the effective partnership with different public or private actors.
PPP and CSR
The course consists of a series of lectures, discussions and presentations. Not only will the theoretical dimension of PPP be presented, but also the filing and analysis of actual cases will be given considerable attention, in light of the freshness of these concepts.
